melissa

Melissa turned the corner and was shocked to see Andrew. The last time she had seen him, he was pulling his pants up and chasing after her as his father dragged her away. Not a thought she really wanted remember, but it returned any way.
It was the fall of 1990. Melissa and Andrew had been secretly dating for months. It was hard since her father worked for his father, but they had all day in high school to be together. They had a few classes together so it was mostly him carrying her books and walking her to class but they took theater class together so they had plenty of time after school.
Andrew's father ran the only business in town and employed a majority of the town in some form or another. Andrew was the golden boy: football star, basketball hero, actor, and sprinter. He was destined to go to Ohio State and play football for them, get his MBA and come home and take over the company.
Melissa's father was a custodian. He worked nights and Melissa didn't get to see a lot of her dad. He worked hard to take care of her mother, brother and herself. Melissa's mother was sick and it was hard for a her to be at home. Melissa was 16. She'd just gotten her driver's license, thanks to Andrew, and couldn't wait to graduate high school and get out of Vienna. School kept her busy and away from home. Andrew made her happy and kept her busy even more.
Andrew asked her to go with him to homecoming. Sophomores were only allowed to go if a senior asked so it was perfect. There wouldn't be many of her classmates to drag her down but plenty of kids to see that Andrew was serious. She'd known that night would be extra special because she'd already decided she loved him and was going to stop being a virgin that night.
